Tiny Peek: This (New) Old House

Nesting Place
(We linked up to The Nesting Place's Paint Colors Linky!! Check it out here- they have a ton of amazing color inspiration!)

Welcome to the first edition of Tiny Peek- where we take you into other people's homes and let you virtually tour all of the wonderfulness found behind their doors! Our first Tiny Peek takes place in Somerville, MA- a smaller city right outside of Boston. Somerville is a great mix of home architecture- gorgeously ornate Victorians coexist next to plain triple deckers on many streets. The subject of our Tiny Peek is a fabulous Foursquare home built in 1875 and nestled into a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood.

The owners have just recently moved into this wonderful old home and are still in the process of making it their own, so I'm just going to show you the paint colors for now. Most of the rooms are newly painted and the serious and crisp color palette has taken the house from a bit too traditional to perfectly modern.

Entryway

The house is endowed with a large, open two-story foyer as it's main entrance way. The owners scrapped the floral-print stair runner and replaced it with a gorgeous multi-stripe carpet which runs up the stairs and all the way down the upstairs hallway.  They also found matching mid-century pendants for the front and back entryways which take the place of traditional brass and glass fixtures in place when they moved in. Dove gray walls and pure white trim complete the transformation from fussy to fabulous.

Library

The library is just a small room to the right of the entry way bestowed with HUGE windows and tons of light. The homeowners capitalized on this gorgeous light by painting the walls a deeper, more saturated gray. The built in bookshelves got a dose of the same crisp, pure white as the trim throughout the house.

(Isn't the molding and radiator gorgeous??? Like frosting on a delicious cake!!!)

Living Room

The living room is a work in progress! Right now, it's painted the original gold-mustard but that will be changing soon. I photographed it against the owner's modern black sofa so you could see how traditional the home used to be and the direction in which it will be moving!

Kitchen

The kitchen is very traditional in it's color scheme. The walls are a smoky blue-green, which actually looks great with all of the light that the room receives. The counters are another story. Green marble. Everywhere. Not dark green, either. Emerald green. Anyway, it's a beautiful room with custom white cabinets, stainless appliances and nickel hardware so the green doesn't stand out too much. Here are some snaps of the blue-green wall color against that white trim.

Additional snapshots:

Upstairs hall bathroom tile, a rich jade green-

Guest bedroom, again the smoky gray with white-

Upstairs hallway, modern carpet with traditional woodwork-

Laundry Room, slate flooring with blush and gray tones-

So there you have it! Our very first Tiny Peek! Leave us some love in the comments- how do you feel about this lovely old house getting a face lift? Are you a traditionalist, a modernist or somewhere in between?
