St. Patrick's Eve Feast for Under $20!

Happy St. Patrick's Eve, Tiny Wallet Stylers! We're throwing a little mid-week dinner party to celebrate with some neighbors! Here's what we have up our sleeve:

Shepherd's Pie (prepared last night and refrigerated- all we have to do is bake for 30 minutes!)

Slow Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage (put the corned beef in this am, will add the cabbage when we get home)

Chocolate Stout Cake with Bailey's Cream Cheese Frosting (made last night, super quick!)

Oh my goodness (my Guiness!). How excited am I to get home and eat? Oh, and the best part? It's totally thrifty! In fact, we'll be feeding 4 people for under $20!!!

Breakdown:
Corned beef: $5.56/4 lbs
Cabbage: $.70/1 head
Ground beef: $4.89/1.29 lbs
Carrots: $.60 (2 carrots from a 2 lb bag, approximate)
Onions: $.50 (2 small onions from a 2 lb bag, approximate)
Potatoes: $1.00 (half of a 5 lb bag, on sale $2.00)
Chicken stock: $1.50 (half of a $3.00 container)
Chocolate cake ingredients: $4 total ($1 for 1 can of stout, $3 for cocoa powder, flour, eggs, butter, etc.)

$18.75! Not too shabby, eh?

Mmmm. How are you celebrating St. Patties Day

  1. Haha Ally you might as well have stolen my menu!
I'm having a St. Patrick's party tomorrow and we are having the following:
-Ruben Dip with Sourdough and Pumpernickle toasts
-Kerry Gold Irish cheese with whiskey (as in the whiskey is IN the cheese!) and crackers
-New England Boiled Dinner (which is essentially corned beef and cabbage with carrots and onions as well)
-Lamb Shepard's Pie with Guinness Gravy, carrots, peas onions and mushrooms.
-Guinness Chocolate Cake with Maple Whisky Whipped Cream! (if I can find said maple whiksy...if not it will be with Bailey's for sure)
I'm not even Irish in the least but I love corned beef like it's my job so any excuse to have a party I'll take it!

  2. Mmm is it wrong to want to have St. Patrick's Day every week or so? Everything came out so well- although we ended up using beef in the pie, not lamb :( Guess where we're celebrating next year? At the Forkey/Baird household!!!!!!
