Tiny Chalkboard Style!

A chalkboard project! I know we're not breaking new ground with this, but I think our application is great for cheap-os like us! This is a project that meets all of our DIY criteria:  super simple to do in an afternoon, cheapy cheap and versatile. It's a homemade chalkboard and it's unbelievably easy to do. Now, we're not reinventing the wheel here, but we wanted to make something for our kitchen that we could write down our weekly dinner menu, jot grocery items or a quick note. When we came across this tee-shirt frame at Christmas Tree Shop for a mere $1, we decided to pick it up and see what we could make out of it.

Fate stepped in when we also found a little pot of chalkboard paint at A.C.Moore on sale for a few bucks and put 2 and 2 together. A chalkboard that wasn't pricey, heavy or breakable (the "glass" is actually plexi). The cats LOVE to knock things down off of the counter, so a normal slate or glass chalkboard was out of the question.

A few coats of chalkboard paint and we were on our way. (Sorry for the grainy photo- our camera was on the fritz the day we did this project!).

Here it is in it's Christmas-y glory with a countdown 'til the big day. We think this would be a great project for tons of applications- maybe a fun colored board for a kid's room? Or small frames hung in multiples above a landing strip or mudroom area? A little easel-style chalkboard for your desk to write little reminders? The possibilities are endless! Oh, and the total price? A tiny $3! Yay
