Let The Sun Shine!

Oh my word, what a glorious Sunday we had. Mike and I decided to spend as much time outside in the sun and I'm so glad we did. Oh, and we totally did it Tiny Wallet Style!
We woke up super early and decided to skip the gym in favor of some outside booty-shaping. There is this amazing park/walking trail in our neighboring city (about a 10 minute drive) called Deer Island.
(Doesn't it look like that plane is coming from my ear?)
It's actually the site of the municipal waste water treatment plant, but don't let that scare ya! The trails are very well-maintained and the view from the top is amazing.
You can scope out the city skyline, peep some planes flying into Logan and even see out to the harbor courtesy of some sweet binoculars!!
After the walk, we headed back to 02128 for some serious garden time. Lucky for us, our neighbors had the same idea so we were able to hang with them while we were raking and digging.
I wish I took a before- our yard was in tough shape. Leaves and leaves and dead plants from last year and more leaves and sticks and more leaves. We filled 5 (five!!!) lawn and leaf bags. Holy cow! Our muscles are sore and our backs a little achy, but we can say that our gardens are ready for planting. Woohoo!
We are SO looking forward to gardening. The sunshine, the smell of dirt, the satisfaction of growing something from a tiny seed into a plant. It's good for the soul.

Easter Table Inspiration

I'm planning an Easter brunch for both sides of our family. This, in addition to the wonderful church service and food, needs to include super cute (and springy!) decor. On a $10 budget.

We're planning to use the pale and springy color pallette from our spring mantel, but I've been combing through all of the Easter posts around the interweb for even more ideas. Here's what's inspiring me:

We've already picked up a few delicate, floral teacups and saucers that we plan to integrate into the table setting, perhaps holding some flowers or as place cards.

Adding in some natural elements like nests and branches will add some texture and not break the bank. I'm planning to snip a few large bunches of lilacs that bloom at my folk's house (where we're holding the brunch), so I think we'll easily come in under budget. I'm going to mock it up at our place, so expect some photos over the weekend!

Spring Has Sprung, Y'all!

Check out our springy mantel!

We added a few inexpensive spring accents thanks to an awesome 50% off sale at Michaels!

We snagged the green tea light cup and yellow bird for a mere $1.50 each!

The bird houses were $1.00 for the little one and $1.99 for the taller one (only $1.00 with the 50% off coupon we had!).

We stuck on some cheery Robin's egg blue paint and some pretty cream and brown floral scrapbook paper with Mod Podge and prettied em up in just a few minutes!
Oh and here are some cute little pink faux florals! I'm usually not a huge fan, but I really wanted some extra foliage since we're not getting the real deal for quite some time.
Aren't these little pink flowers so cute? They're tucked into a cream colored vase. I love them.
Here's a little nest for our nest. Actually just some plastic eggs tucked into a braided wreath from Dollar Tree.

The total for our little spring makeover? Under $15!!! That gives us quite the spring fever!

Signs of Spring

Hello friends! We took a little trip to our favorite thrifty resource, Dollar Tree, and found tons of great supplies for some frugal spring decorating! I wanted to make a new spring wreath, find something to fill the hurricanes we had on our "mantel" from Valentine's Day and add some springy pops of color to our living room. Here's how we did:

These pretty eggs were $1 for a bag of 15 or 18 (I can't remember) and the ribbon (which we also used on our wreath) was $1. We already had the flameless candle, hurricane and epsom salt (the in bottom).

Here's our bookshelf- we were inspired by Tatertots and Jello to make a tiered tray. I'll throw together a tutorial for it, but in the meantime check out hers- I looove the bunting and chevron pattern!!!

More eggs (I'm going to get something to put underneath them- any ideas?) and some straw balls from Dollar Tree (two packages= $2). So far, this bookshelf cost us $6! Not too bad for lots of color and texture.

Here's our sweet wreath that is on our front door! We just wrapped some of the sheer ribbon from our hurricane ($1) on a braided straw wreath ($1) and then hot glued on some moss from our terrariums. We then nestled in some of the pastel eggs and added a little bow! Super simple, but very cute. For two dollars, you can't beat it!

So, for a grand total of $10, we have some signs of spring popping up at Tiny Wallet Headquarters!

Visions of Daffodils Dancing in my Head

Oh man. I'm officially over winter. D-o-n-e. I know that I live in New England, and that winter lasts until April here. I know that's it's only mid-January. That doesn't mean I can't start doing a little spring day-dreaming. I decided to brighten up my (and hopefully your) day by putting together a little spring decor inspiration- inspired by this cute spring wardrobe wishlist over at Bower Power!

C'mon spring!

The Living Room

Our main living space is currently rocking a mis-match of greens, yellows and browns. Not even nearly as fun as it sounds. Here's what I would do to brighten it up for spring:

1) Add some bright accents that won't break the budget.

Canary tea light holders from CB2 for only $7.95/each!

2) DIY some new felt flower pillows, inspired by the ones we found at Z-Gallerie which are out of our budget at $49.95.

3) Bring in some nature to give our living room- nests, plants and bird accents are all floating our decorating boat right now!

-Moss balls found at Crate and Barrel- $12.95 for a set of 9.

-We will find some unfinished wooden birdhouses at the craft store and paint 'em ourselves! The ones on our board are from West Elm and are priced between $24 and $34 bucks.

The Kitchen

Our poor, poor multi-tasking kitchen. Oh kitchen. You have so much potential, if only someone would pay attention to you. Your dark wood cabinets and linoleum floors are crying out for a makeover. Since we don't own this place, we're not willing to put money into renovations but that doesn't mean we can't pretty it up a little! I'm dreaming of a bright, girly upgrade...

1) Cute, cheap and sunny- a bowl full of citrus is the cure to a blah day. I'd put them in this gorgeous, mid-century inspired bowl from Crate and Barrel for a mere $14.95.

2) Don't you love these mod place mats from Krista at CraftsbyKJ on Etsy? At $24 for a set of 4 they are such an easy way to de-frost your dinner parties! Oh, and as a bonus- they're reversible!!!

3) A huge bouquet of daffodils is a sure sign that spring is around the corner. This gorgeous arrangement can be found at a local florist here in Boston, Central Square Florist, but you can certainly find them at your grocery store or farmer's market.

Oh, and how much do you LOVE these happy little laundry hampers? At $20 bucks, it's an affordable way to take the drudgery out of my most hated chore. Crunch Can by Umbra at the Container Store.

Bedroom:

1) We already talked a little about wanting a headboard. I think upholstering it in a gorgeous, saturated color would be awesome.

2) I plan on making a bunch of these bad boys from some t-shirts that I'll pick up at Goodwill. I'm thinking that some pinks and greens would help us get our spring on. Check out the AWESOME tutorial from Floral Showers!!

3) I'd add some romantic candles to brighten up our otherwise dark bedroom- these guys from CB2 are only $1.95-$3.95/each!

4) We were gifted with a gift card to Blik, so we're thinking of adding one of these cute (and springy) decals over our otherwise boring bed. This "Insomnia" decal is $35 and completely removable/re-stickable!

So that's how we're planning on beating the winter blues. How about you?? Leave us a comment and let us know how you're thawing out!
